Debrief Me (giggle, giggle)! July 8, 2010

Lovewell Junior Session 1 just ended. And I am absolutely exhausted. I adore Lovewell and I really don’t think I brag about it enough. In under 4 weeks, 9-13 year olds write a show they care about: 2 hours of songs, scenes, and dances that tell a story they love and can relate to. And, as if that weren’t enough, some of the aforementioned nuggets are pretty darn good. We start from nothing; we end with the bounciest curtain call you’ll ever experience.
During the actual process, time pretty much stops. And races forwards. And lingers to the point of exhaustion. Basically, once you jump into a new Lovewell, you live in Lovewell-land. No escaping to friends and stress; you just keep chugging along that crazy roller coaster (our staff handbook refers to stages in the process as a “vortex of chaos” and “frenzy of creation.” no lie. now do you see what I mean?). So, now that it’s over, I feel like a debriefing.
What is the show about? What does it reflect in the kids? How strange is it feeling like an adult? How strange is it feeling like another child? Why do these kids only want to grow up? Can I grow down?
Answers tomorrow. I’m demolished tonight.
